Camping with the Cows is a program offered to those who wish to volunteer at Paynes Prarie Preserve State Park in Micanopy, Florida. We have spent the past 3 months living on a ranch that the state purchased and made part of the Park. We really didn’t know what was expected of us when we accepted the position, but where we lived for the past 3 months has been exceptional.

Imagine waking each morning to a field of cracker cows just 50 ft. outside your front door. Or taking a stroll down a road and being greeted by cracker horses, birds, frogs, sandhill cranes, and, did I mention cows? The baby cows are too cute, and the ones about to give birth seem to be everywhere.

This experience was a first for Mary and I, but we loved it here. The folks are very friendly and welcoming. So long for now Micanopy, see ya next year!

During our time here, our daughter Nicole visited with Molly, her French bulldog/dachshund, who is the cutest dog you will ever meet. This was Molly’s first encounter with horses and cows, and she was so excited.

Paynes Prarie State Park participated in the July 4th parade in Micanopy, and we got to ride on their float! So fun, be sure to watch the video. Lots of smiling little people as we tossed out candy and stickers.
