So on this day we finally took a day trip into Bar Harbor. It is a lovely little town and the people of the town all contributed to a “Shore Path” that is even listed when you look up places to hike. It was so beautiful!
Two of the pictures above are of Bar Island. A few days later we took a walk on the “Land Bridge” over to it. It was very cool. I will post about that later.
In the foreground are lots of cairns. People just love to build them there. I even got into it. Not very good.
We stopped in town for Lobster rolls and did a little shopping. Needed ibuprofen or something so we stopped in a small drug store and found this cool old soda fountain counter. We also met a cute doggie that loved her sun hat!
On our way back to the moho we stopped for some more mandatory blueberry ice cream! Yum!
Our last big adventure in Bar Harbor was to walk across the “Land Bridge” to Bar Island. You can only do it when the tide is low so we ended up doing it on a very foggy day, and it rained a little off and on, but it was still cool. On a clear day you can see Bar Harbor from the top of the Island trail. We ran into a women that looked really experienced and Chris asked her if it was worth it for us to walk to the end and she said no, so we turned around and walked back down with her. She knew a lot about the island, walking it almost every day. You have to keep an eye on the tide so you don’t get trapped over there. (there were a few things we did in Maine that were like that) It was a fun thing to do if you ever get there.
As you can see, you can not even see the Island when you start off. This was around 10am.
Kayakers taking off from the land bridge.
Coming back over the land bridge…^^^^^
Later that day I took a quick drive back over to this spot ^^^ and took pictures of the tide in. Wow! What a difference a few hours make, huh? Still a little foggy…
These are a couple street shots I took while I was there…pretty!
I also stopped into the Acadia Visitor’s Center to get a puzzle I had seen there before when we were buying parking tickets. I learned a little more about cairns. Very interesting (to me anyway).
On our last full day we went to a local brewery that had coal fired pizza. We also got a homemade blueberry pie from the traveling pie guy.
I loved the bare logs for foot rests.
Next morning it was off to our next site in Maine. Boothbay. ByeBye Bar Harbor! It was GREAT!!! Better than I ever imagined! Hope to make it back someday…..
