We tried to walk every day but we never made it too far with all the hills or the dog was with us (excuses, excuses I know).
May 24th we drove to see my Aunt in Basye, VA which, it turns out, is only about a half an hour from the campground! We haven’t tired of the mountains all around us here so of course there are lots of pictures to share again…
My Aunt, Chris and I enjoying a nice brunch in the mountains.
flowers that my aunt picked from her garden for me. So pretty and lasted a long time.
On May 27th (2 days after I predicted) the baby ducks started to hatch…
By the next morning we had 10 baby ducks and by the afternoon she had taken them away from the nest (to the creek I later learned).
I found them later that day 🙂
That night we went into Woodstock for dinner and grocery shopping.
Nice mountain sunset!
On Memorial Weekend my brother and his son came over to visit from my mom’s. We drove into the mountains to show them a look-out spot we had found not to far from the campground off Rt. 675.
Then we grilled up some ribs and had a great dinner.
They spent the night and left the next day. It was great fun to have them here!
That next night we had a flash flood warning. The owners put all the picnic tables and fire rings from the tent sites up by the office and wouldn’t let me put anyone by the creek (there were already a couple people there that they told not to unhook). I was running around in my rubber boots and raincoat and was about to go into the RV when the fire alert sounded. One of the campers called me in a panic worried that it was a flood alarm. While I was talking to her we heard the fire engine/ambulance so she felt better. As it turned out we just ended up with a slightly swollen creek. Thank goodness.
I was a little worried about the baby ducks getting washed away, but it seems that was not necessary…
Mama even started to bring them around our site (her nest had been there…)
The creek got back to normal pretty quick.
There were some interesting sites around the campground. This guy had no trouble getting around and with his dog too!
And these girls were local girls using the camp to access the creek (which they allowed and I didn’t mind until a couple of boys really messed up the bathroom – I think they knew the code). Anyway, we saw them and the boys quite often, especially after school let out.
yes they are covered in mud in this picture!
Another beautiful sunset over the mountains!
Finally one day when I was off and Chris was caught up we went to the Shenandoah Vineyards. It was beautiful, mountains in every direction! And the wine was great too! 🙂
I really enjoyed our time in Edinburg and surrounding areas. The vineyard and our “private tour” was special.
